American explorer Zebulon Pike spots Pike’s Peak.

Zebulon Pike had an illustrious life which burned out quick. He became a Captain and explorer. Him and his men were captured by the Spanish and questioned in Mexico. In 1810 he published his story and it became a hit, published in German, French, and Dutch. While serving as a general in the War of 1812, he died in the Battle of York. It was a victory for the U.S., and a loss for the people.

On this day November 15th, in 1806, American explorer Zebulon Pike spots Pike’s Peak. On July 15, 1806 Pike set out on his expedition, dubbed Pike’s Expedition, which was similar to what Lewis and Clarke did, except this was a larger group and more militaristic. Pike told numerous tribes that the land he was passing through was now America’s land – probably not the smartest move.
