Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand’s hit song, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” reaches #1 on the Hot 100 chart.

“You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” is a song, written by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman, about two lovers who drifted apart while they “go through the motions” and heartache of life together.

On this day, December 2, in 1878, the song reached the top of the charts.  There was a major spike of interest in the duet, done by Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand.  For two non-consecutive weeks in December, the song reached number one on the Hot 100 chart.  This would make it the third number one hit for both singers.
