Due to the dismantling of the Ottoman Empire, the Yemen Arab Republic is established.

The Ottoman Empire was one of the largest and most powerful empires in history. The vast empire included areas south of the Holy Roman Empire, to the outskirts of Vienna, Royal Hungary to the north, Yemen and Eritrea in the south, Algeria in the west, and Azerbaijan in the east. The Empire ruled until the Sultanate was abolished.

On this day September 27th, in 1962, the Yemen Arab Republic is established after the breakup of the Ottoman Empire.  After revolutionaries were inspired by the Arab nationalist ideology of a united Arab republic, Egyptian deposed the Yemenite King, took over the capital of Sana’a, and established the Yemen Arabic Republic.

The establishment of the Yemen Arab Republic marked the beginning of the North Yemen Civil War, that went on until Saudi Arabia finally recognized Yemen as a republic. Finally after years of conflict the North and South unified in 1990. Yemen is bordered by Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea, and it has a population of approximately 25 million people.
