World Series Played at Yankee Stadium for the First Time

The original Yankee Stadium is often referred to as, “The House that Ruth Built,” because the opening of the stadium coincided with the peak of Babe Ruth’s career.  In its many years of service, Yankee stadium hosted many important sports games, including a long list of Yankee World Series games.

On this day, October 10th, in 1923, the World Series was played at Yankee stadium for the first time.  In the series, the Yankees faced the New York Giants.  The Yankees won the series in six games and were help greatly by Babe Ruth’s three home runs.  Yankee stadium had one of the largest seating capacities in baseball at the time, which helped the 1923 World Series break the total attendance record with more than 300,000 fans.

The Yankee’s success during the first year of play in Yankee stadium set a trend of dominance for the Yankees in the next several decades.  In total, the Yankees won 26 World Series Championships at Yankee Stadium before moving to the present-day Yankee Stadium in 2009.
