The great Wilt Chamberlain is traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Lakers

Wilt Chamberlain was one of the greatest Philadelphia 76ers of all time.  His greatness peaked during the 1961 – 1962 NBA season when he averaged close to 50 points a game.  The Big Dipper also scored 100 points in a game which is a record that has never been threatened.  By like with many other legendary athletes, Wilt didn’t finish his career with the team he gave so much too.

It was on this day, July 9th, 1968, that Wilt Chamberlain was traded from the 76ers to the Los Angeles Lakers.  The 76ers had just been beat by Boston for the 3rd time in 4 seasons in the conference finals and they wanted to make a change.  Trading Wilt was a difficult decision as he was a legend in Philly.

In return, the Sixers got Jerry Chambers, Archie Clark and Darrall Imhoff. Wilt continued to have success while playing in LA – as he led the team to 4 NBA finals appearances in the 5 years he played for the Lakers.
