Wilt Chamberlain Record 55 Rebounds

Wilt Chamberlain is considered by many to be the best center in basketball history.  Standing at 7 feet 1 inch, the dominant big man changed the way the position of center was played.  In his 14 year career, Chamberlain won MVP honors four times and was NBA scoring champion 7 times.  Chamberlain would not be able to accomplish all of these things without some amazing single-game performances.

On this day, November 24th, in 1960, Wilt Chamberlain broke Bill Russell’s single-game rebound record.  Russell set the rebound mark in the 1950s at 51, but against the Celtics, Wilt “the Stilt” was able to bring down an impressive 55 boards.

Wilt Chamberlain ended his career with 23,924 rebounds, averaging 22.9 per game.  Although his 55 rebound performance was otherworldly in its own right, Chamberlain’s best single game performance may have come in 1962 when scored 100 points in a game.
