Villanova pulls off the greatest upset in NCAA history beating Georgetown in the NCAA finals.

When people talk about upsets in sports, they often refer to the 1985 Villanova team. Villanova entered the NCAA tournament as an average team, but the players left as champions.

It was on this day, April 1, in 1985, that Villanova pulled off the greatest upset in NCAA history when the team defeated Georgetown in the NCAA finals. Even though Georgetown had future Hall-of-Famer Patrick Ewing, the scrappy team from Philadelphia was able to win the title.

Villanova was an 8-seed in the tournament, and they remain the highest-seeded team to ever win it all. Villanova made an amazing 79 percent of its shots in the final game as the team fought its way to the 66-64 victory. Georgetown had defeated Villanova twice in the regular season, but in the title game, the Wildcats prevailed.
