The United States receives rights to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Pearl Harbor is a harbor lagoon on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Hawaiian natives called this harbor Wai Nomi, meaning pearl water, and they believed that it was neighbors with the dolphin god Kaʻahupahau and his brother Kahiʻuka.

On this day November 9th, in 1887, The United States receives rights to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This gave the United States a continual presence in the Pacific Ocean. During the early 20th century, Pearl Harbor became home to the U.S. Pacific Naval Fleet.

Oahu is the most populated Island in Hawaii, with nearly one million people living there. Oahu has over 5 million tourists that visit each year from the United States and Japan, accounting for a large bulk of its economy as well. It was also the site of the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor that took place December 7, 1941 and forever will be remembered by Americans.
