In front of a home crowd at Ford Field in Detroit – Michigan State loses to UNC in the NCAA finals

The NCAA championship game is played on a neutral court each season – to ensure a fair game which each team has a shot to win.  However, this neutral court is decided on before the tournament starts, so there is always the chance that a team will play in front of its home crowd.

On this day, April 9th, 2009, Michigan State played North Carolina in the NCAA championship game.  The game was played in front of a Michigan State fan base at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Unfortunately for the home town team, North Carolina had too many weapons as they handled Michigan State 89 – 72.  The game was even more of a blowout then the final score indicates, as North Carolina took control from the opening tip.  Nevertheless, it was an exciting experience for locals who got to see their beloved Spartans play in two final four games right in their very own backyard.
