UCLA returns to glory as they defeat the Arkansas Razorbacks in the NCAA championship game.

The post-John Wooden UCLA teams didn’t come close to the success that they had under Coach Wooden. The team struggled to regain its title as the top basketball program in the nation. But when UCLA basketball returned to glory, stories about the great Wooden teams were at the forefront once again.

It was on this day, April 3, in 1995, that UCLA defeated Arkansas in the NCAA championship game. It was UCLA’s first title since John Wooden’s final title in 1975.

It was an amazing run to a championship. In the second round against Missouri, the season was all but over as UCLA trailed 74-73 with 4.8 seconds remaining. However, Tyus Edney took the ball from end to end and scored a  layup in the final second to give UCLA an amazing victory. The momentum from that thrilling victory carried UCLA to four more wins and the NCAA championship.
