Two no-hitters in one day, thrown by both Dave Stewart and Fernando Valenzuela

The no-hitter only comes ever so often in Major League Baseball.  And when it happens, it is usually a good amount of time until we end up seeing another one.  However, sometimes, lightning can strike twice on the same day in two different places.

It was on this day, June 29th, 1990, that two no-hitters were thrown on the same day.  Dave Stewart tossed a no-hitter for the Oakland A’s and then later in the evening, Fernando Valenzuela threw one for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Both pitchers did it towards the end of their career while they were not at the top of their game. Stewart pitched it against the Blue Jays in a 5 -0 victory while Valenzuela did it against the St. Louis Cardinals in a 6-0 win.
