Thomas Edison is responsible for a breakthrough when he creates the first sound movies – the movies however are unsynchronized

Thomas Edison as an inventor is responsible for a number of devices that greatly influenced modern life around the globe. “The Wizard of Menlo Park” as he was called invented the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and the electric light bulb.

It was on this day, August 22nd, in 1895 that Thomas Edison had a breakthrough when he created the first sound movies—the movies, however, were unsynchronized.

The Kinetophone played music alongside the movie, but the sound and images were not matched in any way. The first and only surviving movie made with live-recorded sound on the Kinetophone is referred to as the “Dickson Experimental Sound Film.” Only 45 total Kinetophones were made.
