Satellite Telstar broadcasts first live Europe-US TV show

Telstar, a sector belonging to AT&T, was the first company to develop experimental satellite communications technology over the Atlantic Ocean. NASA launched Telstar 1 aboard a rocket in July of 1962.  The first attempts for satellite communication were limited to 20-minute intervals of access during the 2.5-hour orbits.

It was on this day, August 23rd, in 1962 that the first Europe-US live TV program was broadcast via Telstar.

In 1928, the first transatlantic television signal was sent from London to New York.  However this signal was not broadcast to the public.  The first live signal for public audiences wasn’t sent until this Telstar satellite operated in 1962 from the United States to Britain.
