Syracuse beats Connecticut in a big east tournament game that goes to a record 6 overtimes.

The big east tournament is played at Madison Square Garden in early March each year.  Schools from across the Northeast compete in a tournament which has seen several NBA stars including Patrick Ewing, Ray Allen, Carmello Anthony, Allen Iverson, and Chris Mullen.  The games are exciting as The Garden becomes a lively venue with students and fans of each team cheering loudly and passionately.  With so many games in just a few days, there is usually one or two games which turn out to be classic.

It was on this day, March 12th, 2009, that Syracuse and Connecticut played in a classic 6 overtime big east tournament game.  Syracuse prevailed 127 – 117 in a game that took almost 4 hours to play. Syracuse never led in any of the overtimes until the 10 seconds into the 6th overtime.

Amazingly Syracuse beat West Virginia the next night to advance to the finals of the big east tournament.  However, Syracuse’s legs finally gave out on them in the finals as Louisville defeated them in the Big East Championship.
