Sophia Loren is imprisoned for 30 days after being convicted of not reporting five million lire on her income tax return

Italian actress Sophia Loren gained an interest in acting at the young age of 14 and from then on everything took its course.  She became an famous actress known worldwide. With all that recognition and fame also came issues.

On May 19th 1982, Sophia Loren is imprisoned for 30 days after being convicted of not reporting five million lire on her income tax return. That is the equivalent of about $7,000 during the 1980’s.  She knew there was a misunderstanding with her taxes, but unfortunately for her the tax specialist had passed away.

The issue was resolved, she just had to stay in prison for 30 days and she would be let free afterwards. After that incident her and her husband also had issues with the Italian government, and they decided to give up their Italian citizenship.
