The Social Network, a movie about the creation of Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg, premieres in the US

Facebook was launched on February 4th in 2004 and has become a worldwide phenomenon. Six years and 845 million users later, a movie directed by David Fincher was produced to reenact the lives of the founders of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg and his college buddies.

On this day, October 1st, in 2010 The Social Network debuts in the U.S. starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield, Brenda Song, and more. The film highlights the lives of the masterminds behind the mass medium Facebook at Harvard University and is critically acclaimed as one of the best movies of the year.

The Social Network grossed over $22.4 million in its first weekend and was played in over 2,500 theaters countrywide. The film also won three Academy Awards, a Hollywood Ensemble Award, and four Golden Globe Awards.
