The film Slumdog Millionaire wins four Golden Globe Awards

Slumdog Millionaire, also known as the rags-to-riches movie, exposes Jamal Malik’s years as an orphan in the slums of Mumbai and his life changing opportunity on the Hindi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The events of Jamal’s life in the slums answer each question of the game show, and prove his innocence when accused of cheating.

On this day, January 12th, in 2009 Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded Slumdog Millionaire with four Golden Globe Awards: Best Picture (Drama), Best Original Score, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Shortly after, it received the Academy Award for Best Picture as well.

Slumdog, the British-made movie, depicts real time poverty and real life in India and has inspired national pride. Although the movie was originally released in the United Kingdom, Fox Searchlight Pictures took the movie over from Warner Bros. and circulated it worldwide and from there the movie was a success.
