The Isle of Skye and the Highlands are connected via the Skye Bridge in Scotland.

The Isle of Skye is a beautiful and quaint place which sees a lot of traffic running through it during the summers.  Plans for a bridge to connect the Isle of Skye to the Highlands began towards the end of the 1800’s, but a rationale couldn’t be made for it because of the low population at the time.

On this day October 16th, in 1995, the Skye Bridge opens after three years of construction, connecting the Isle of Skye and the Highlands. The Isle of Skye is a touristy place, as well as having a number of distilleries. The Highlands is where many political offices and officials are situated.

One would think the Skye Bridge would bring happiness to the community, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Skye Bridge was built by investors who financed construction on their own, in exchange for a hefty toll on the road. There is a lot of controversy involved with the toll, with many citizens of the Isle of Skye demanding that this bridge be free, like the others. Many people refused to pay and were taken to jail for their disobedience.
