Senator John F Kennedy, announces his candidacy for President

JFK was one of the most polarizing figures in United States history. Tragically, his life was cut short on a sunny day in Dallas.  However, before JFK was President, he of course was just another Senator.

It was on this day, January 2nd, in 1960, that JFK first announced that he would run for President. He made the announcement in the Senate Caucus Room in Washington, DC.

JFK spoke about his dedication to the military and his motivation to defend America against all evil when he made the announcement.  And while at the time he was not considered a heavy favorite to win the election – he did win and he still is considered one of the of the most famous US Presidents of all time.
