The Segway Personal Transporter, a unique self-balancing transportation device used in cities to replace cars, is shown to the public for the first time

Dean Kamen invented the Segway Personal Transporter, a unique two-wheeled, self-balancing transportation machine that is used in cities to replace traditional cars. The electric motors can reach speeds of up to 12.5 miles per hour

It was on this day, December 3rd, in 2001 that the Segway PT was shown in public for the first time.

While the strange looking mechanism was considered odd at first, Segways are now used worldwide. Special Segway tours can be taken as a tourist attraction in some cities. Police officers in some districts ride on Segways instead of motorcycles or cars. This new method of transportation is used in America, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East.
