The great Sandy Koufax becomes the 4th pitcher to throw a third no hitter

Sandy Koufax was one of the greatest pitchers in Major League Baseball history.  However, he retired early, at the peak of his career. He compiled some impressive feats while playing baseball and he also stood by his ideals and beliefs at all costs.

It was on this day, June 4th, 1964, that Sandy Koufax became the 4th pitcher in Major League Baseball history to throw a third no hitter.  At Connie Mack Stadium against the Phillies, Koufax accomplished the feat for the Dodgers.  Koufax would have had a perfect game had he not walked one Phillies batter in the 4th inning.

Koufax also became well known for his commitment to his Jewish faith.  Koufax was scheduled to pitch Game 1 of the World Series in 1965.  However, the game was on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. Koufax refused to pitch, and instead attended synagogue in Minneapolis.
