Russian Revolution: After the Tsar is overthrown and killed, Russia is declared a Republic

The Russian Revolution is a collective term for a series of revolutions in Russia that led to the destruction of the Tsarist autocracy. After the Tsar was removed a provisional government was created until the establishment of a Bolshevik (Communist) government. The people had finally had enough, and with the new philosophy of communism (Marxism) emerging, a new government led by the common people emerged.

On this day September 14th, in 1917, the Russian Revolution occurs after the Tsar is overthrown and killed. Russia then declared itself a Republic. Before the revolution Russian peasants endured poverty, inflation, and sanitation issues that made life nearly unbearable. Furthermore, over 25% of the land was owned by 1.5% of the population.

After the Tsarist family was murdered, Vladimir Lenin led the Bolshevik party to St. Petersburg and overthrew the provisional government. The Bolsheviks appointed themselves as the leaders and organized the Soviet state security organizations, the Cheka, to destroy the opposition. This would be the foundation for the USSR, aka the Soviet Union.
