No one likes a selfish Sports star. Professional athletes make millions of dollars per year to play a Sport they love, and that comes with expectations from fans. Fans expect Athletes to try hard, care, and not be selfish. When a player is selfish, the media and the fans certainly get frustrated.
It was on this day, March 16h, 2003, that Ricky Davis tried to earn a cheap triple double. Needing only 1 rebound to earn a trouble double, Ricky Davis was trying to attempt a shot under the wrong basket – which of course he would miss and then rebound himself. DeShawn Stevenson fouled Davis before he could attempt the move to prevent him from cheating his way into a triple double.
The media and fans were outraged at what Ricky Davis attempted to do. After all, a triple double is not that big of a deal, but fans clearly felt it should be earned and not given to a player. The good news for the Cavs and Davis is that it was all in a winning effort as Cleveland defeated Utah 122-95.
