Juan Jose Flores becomes president when the Republic of Ecuador is founded.

Ecuador is the only other country besides Chile to not be bordered by the gigantic futbol famous Brazil. Its name is derived from its close proximity to the equator, which is what Ecuador translates to. Ecuador is also a megadiverese country due to its many indigenous species of animals found there. As of estimates of 2011 15 million people live in Ecuador.

On this day May 13th, in 1830, The Republic of Ecuador is founded. Ecuador broke off from Gran Colombia, which is modern day Colombia, Venezuela, Venezuela, Peru, and part of Brazil. Juana Jose Flores became the president upon the founding of Ecuador and is often referred to as the founder of Ecuador. He was a Venezuelan general, and he fought off the invading Colombians as well as being president two times.

Ecuador has had many political uprisings and revolutions, which parallels well with the fact that over 35% of the population lives in poverty. With economic distress there often is political unrest. Ecuador’s economy is upheld by the exports of petroleum, fish, timber and gold. As well, it is also abundant with bananas, coffee, tropical fruits, and rice etc.
