Prince’s “Purple Rain” album goes to #1 & stays #1 for 24 weeks

During his music career, Prince has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles.  He also won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award for his work.

It was on this day, August 4th, in 1984 that Prince’s “Purple Rain” album went to number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.  The album stayed at number 1 for 24 weeks.

“Purple Rain” sold over thirteen million copies in America.  A film of the same name debuted in 1984, which was Prince’s first film appearance.  “Purple Rain” the movie grossed over $80 million in the US and won an Academy Award.
