Named in honor of British statesman William Pitt – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is founded.

Pittsburgh’s football is named after the large Steel industry in Pittsburgh, which did exist at one point, but are mostly gone now. There aren’t any steel mills left inside of the city, and only two are in the county. At one time Pittsburg was a haven for steel mills, bringing in much of the material needed for buildings, railroads, cars and weapons.

On this day November 25th, in 1758, General John Forbes names Pittsburgh after William Pitt. William Pitt is famous for his eloquence, for having the ability to keep a crowd enthralled and invigorated with his tongue. He was known for speaking out against corruption and for being a leading statesman during the Seven Years War.

Pittsburgh’s population is roughly 350,000, and its total land area is 55 square miles. Pittsburgh has become a technology hub with over 1600 technology companies in the area: Apple, Intel, Google etc. Pittsburgh is also a great place to get in shape, as there are tons of hills and stairs everywhere. Its topography is extremely hilly. Cool fact, you can also walk or bike from Pittsburgh on a path 245 miles all the way to Washington DC!
