Sports Illustrated issues a report tying Pete Rose to baseball gambling.

There are crimes in Baseball that will live in infamy.  The Black Sox Scandal which involved players throwing the world series stands out as the worst Baseball crime ever.  The steroid era was awful as players cheated and surpassed Baseball records which had withstood the test of time.  But one Baseball crime stands out as being the most talked about ever, because it involved such a high profile player and it lasted for a long time.

It was on this day, March 21st, 1986, that Sports Illustrated issued a report which tied Pete Rose to betting on baseball.  It was a charge that Rose would vehemently deny until 2004 when he finally admitted in an interview with Charlie Rose that he bet on baseball.

Pete Rose was banned from Baseball for life, and as a result, he has never been allowed to be admitted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.  There is no doubt that Pete was one of the greatest players ever, and his crime wasn’t committed until after his playing days were long over, however, the game has high standards and Pete Rose has learned that over the years.
