At the 41st MLB all star game in Cincinnati, Pete Rose steamrolled over catcher Ray Fosse

The all-star game has had many memorable moments over the years.  The game is played with an intensity that is not nearly matched by any of the other all-star games in other Sports.  And one player who played every inning with intensity was the great Pete Rose.

It was on this day, July 14th, 1970, that Pete Rose steamrolled Roy Fosse during the 41st all-star game.  A close play at the plate turned into a full on collision as rose dipped his shoulder into the catcher.  Fosse separated his shoulder on the play and never again was the player he was before the incident.

The play occurred in the bottom of the 12th inning, and when Fosee dropped the ball, Rose scored the winning run.   The NL won the game by a score of 5 – 4. There was wide debate about whether or not it was the right thing to do.  But Pete Rose didn’t have an on/off button, when he was on the field, regardless of the circumstances, he played to win.
