In Super Bowl XXXIX, the New England Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles and Deion Branch is MVP.

Philadelphia is a town rich in its history and passion for sports.  Amazingly enough, with all of the great sports teams the city has had, it has never had a Super Bowl Champion.  However, many Philadelphians were confident that this would change behind Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens.

It was on this day, February 6th, 2005, that the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles met in Super Bowl XXXIX.  It was a tightly contested battle, and the Patriots held on for a 24 – 21 victory.  It was the Patriots’ second consecutive Super Bowl victory.

The Eagles had the ball down 3 points, with under a minute to go.  However, Donovan McNabb was intercepted by Rodney Harrison, sealing the victory for the Patriots.  Even though he didn’t have a touchdown reception, Patriots wide receiver Deion Branch earned the MVP award. And while the Pats celebrated their third NFL title in 4 seasons, Eagles fans once again had to say to themselves, “maybe next year.”
