For the 4th time, the New York Yankees hire Billy Martin to be their manager

Sometimes professional sports teams can’t make a decision.  They go back and forth trying to determine what is best for their organization.  And when it came to Billy Martin, George Steinbrenner and the Yankees couldn’t make a decision.

It was on this day, April 28th, 1985, that Billy Martin was hired to be the Yankees manager for a 4th time.  Martin would replace Yogi Bera.

The 4th managerial stint didn’t last long, as on October 17th, of 1985, Lou Pinella replaced Martin as the Yankees skipper.  Amazingly enough, Martin would be hired by the Yankees to manage the team a 5th time and final time.  And the 5th time was similar to the 4th time when he was replaced again by Lou Pinella in 1988.
