The first ever issue of the New York Times is published, it was started by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones

What would be of the newspaper industry without the New York Times? It influenced so many other newspapers to come about such as well-known LA Times. When the New York Times first rose up, its purpose was to inform the residents of New York on what was going on in their community and essentially featured topics that related to them.

On September 18th 1851, the first ever issue of the New York Times was published; it was started by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones. When they first started up the newspaper, it was first called the New York Daily Times, but 6 years after the first published newspaper it was changed to just the New York Times. Raymond and Jones had planned for the newspaper to be a balance of views, not either too conservative or too liberal, because everything needs a balance; nothing should really be categorized as entirely black or white because there are always smaller facts that allow for this grey area.

The way that the New York Times was established allowed it to become a general newspaper that anyone could read and relate to. It was not based on any bias beliefs and therefore it was given the opportunity to be something big. Now the New York Times is the 3rd best selling newspaper in the nation.
