New Musical Express (NME) publishes first regular UK musical singles chart

The New Musical Express or NME is a weekly music publication in the United Kingdom.  Although it began as a music newspaper, it slowly grew to use a magazine format.  It became the best-selling British music newspaper in the 1970s and has over 5 million users per month.

It was on this day, November 14, 1952, that New Musical Express published its first regular UK Musical Singles Chart.  The chart consists of 200 top-selling single records of the week in the United Kingdom which are calculated through record sales and the number of downloads and is compiled by The Official Charts Company.  This differentiates the UK Singles Chart from the United States because it does not use any airplay statistics.
