U Washington football coach Rick Neuheisel fired for playing in NCAA tournament pool

March Madness is one of the most exciting times of the year.  People across the country compete in pools to try and best predict how the unpredictable NCAA basketball tournament will pan out.  But when you are an NCAA coach, you should make a point to steer clear of these office pools.

It was on this day, July 2nd, 2003, that University of Washington football coach Rick Neuheisel was fired for playing in a NCAA tournament pool.  The game was rather high-takes and even though the coach was associated with football, many felt that he shouldn’t be participating in a basketball pool.

Neuheisel  would go onto become the head football coach at UCLA.  However, after a 6 – 6 performance in 2011, Rick was once again fired.  The team did allow him to coach in his final game, which was the Pac 12 title game, however UCLA got beat by the Oregon Ducks by a score of 49 – 31.
