The NBA finals are interrupted with a low-speed police chase involving OJ Simpson

Sports and crime intersect on occasion.  But on one occasion, they intersected so much that the telecast of NBA Finals were interrupted.

It was on this day, June 17th, 1994, that a low-speed police chase involving OJ Simpson interrupted the telecast of the NBA Finals.  With the Rockets playing the Knicks in New York City, viewers of the game were taken to live footage of OJ Simpson in a White Ford Bronco being followed by the police. The police were going to arrest OJ Simpson for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.  OJ, who maintained his innocence, was apparently suicidal, which is part of the reason why the police were very delicate with the situation.

OJ eventually ended up at his home in Brentwood, and the arrest happened without anyone getting hurt – but the entire experience was something never before seen in Sports.  The NBA Finals were put on hold so that America could watch the OJ Simpson, the former Heisman Trophy winner, get chased by police down an Los Angeles freeway.
