To compete with Russia – President Dwight Eisenhower signs the act to create NASA – changing technology and science forever

President Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States and a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II. His time in office was characterized by general peace and economic prosperity.

It was on this day, July 29th, in 1958 that President Dwight Eisenhower signed the act to create NASA in order to compete with Russia’s space exploration pursuits.

NASA, or the National Aeronautics and Space Act, led space exploration efforts thereafter, including the Apollo moon missions, the Skylab space station, and the Space Shuttle. NASA is currently supporting the International Space Station, the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Commercial Crew vehicles.
