Muhammad Ali makes his Madison Square Garden debut and he knocks out Sonny Banks in the 4th round.

Madison Square Garden has been the site for some of the most famous boxing matches in history.  And when Cassius Clay (later named Muhammad Ali) boxed at Madison Square Garden for his first time, it was quite an entertaining bout.

It was on this day, February 10th, 1962, that Muhammad Ali knocked out Sonny Banks at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  In the first round, Banks hit Ali on the chin with a left-hand punch that knocked Ali to the ground for the first time in his career.  However, Ali regained his composure and defeated Banks in the 4th round.

Muhammed Ali would go on to fight many of the most important matches in boxing history at Madison Square Garden.  But had Ali not regained his composure to knock out Banks at the beginning of his career, boxing history would have been changed forever and Ali may not have risen to the stardom and fanfare that he did.
