Mike Tyson Becomes Boxing’s Youngest Ever Heavyweight Champion

Mike Tyson had a storied career that included 44 wins by knockout and just 6 losses in 58 fights. He compiled over $300 million in winnings across his professional career.  In 2010, he was ranked #1 on ESPN’s list of the hardest hitters in heavyweight history. And the fight that first put him in the record books took place when he was just 20 years old.

On this day, November 22, 1986, in a fight billed as “Judgement Day,” Mike Tyson defeated Trevor Berbick to become the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at the age of 20 years, 4 months and 22 days old.

Tyson entered the fight at 27-0 across his career and was a 3-1 favorite over the 32-year-old Berbick, who was the defending heavyweight champion. Tyson won the fight in dominant fashion earning a second round TKO.
