The beloved cartoon Mickey Mouse makes his first appearance in the Disney short film “Plane Crazy”

Disney’s short film “Plane Crazy” was first done as a silent film and the year after it was screen tested it was made into a sound cartoon. It is meant to imitate Charles Lindbergh since during that time he had just won the Orteig Prize for his flight.

On May 15th 1928, The beloved cartoon character Mickey Mouse makes his first appearance in the Disney short film “Plane Crazy.” On this day it was just test screened, but the lack of attraction that the film had, maybe because of a lack in sound, caused it to not be picked up by a distributor.

Even though this film did not skyrocket, it did mark Mickey Mouse’s first appearance to the audience. Steamboat Willie was the first sound cartoon with Mickey and it was a great hit. As we can see now, his character has stuck around ever since.
