Michael Jordan finally beats the Pistons in the playoffs – sweeping them to advance to the finals

Getting over the hump is something that professional athletes must often do. The Bulls had continued to lose to the Pistons in the NBA playoffs, as Michael Jordan couldn’t get past that hurdle.

It was on this day, May 27th, 1991, that Michael Jordan finally beat the Pistons and advanced to the NBA finals.  The game, like the series, wasn’t close, as the Bulls swept the Pistons winning game 4 by a score of 115 – 94.

The win was special for Jordan, as for years he had heard the criticism from people saying that he couldn’t get past Detroit.  The Bulls met Magic Johnson and the Lakers in the finals.  In game 1, the Lakers won a thriller by 2 points.  However, the Bulls won game 2 and didn’t look back again, winning the next three games en route to Michael Jordan’s first ever NBA championship.
