Michael Jackson kicked off the “Dangerous Tour” in Germany

Michael Jackson was the world –renowned recording artist and entertainer also known as the “King of Pop.”  He joined his brothers’ band, the Jackson Brothers, in 1964 and began sharing the lead vocals with his brother Jermaine when he was only eight years old and the band changed its name to The Jackson 5.  Jackson began his career independent of his brothers in 1971.

It was on this day, June 27, 1992 that Michael Jackson began his Dangerous World Tour.  It was the second worldwide solo concert tour by the artist and ran from 1992 to November 11, 1993.  The tour was sponsored by Pepsi-Cola, featured 69 performances in front of over 3.5 million people, and all the profits went to charities.  One of the charities was his very own Heal the World Foundation, an international children’s charity created in honor of his friend Ryan White.

Jackson’s contribution to dance, music, fashion, and entertainment led to his recognition as the most successful entertainer of all time by the Guinness World Records.  He passed away on June 25, 2009 and a formal memorial was held for him with an estimated billion people watching worldwide.  Jackson’s legacy will live on forever through his music.
