On March 27th 1973, Marlon Brando won the Best Actor Oscar for his work in The Godfather, but he declined the award due to his disapproval of the film industry’s treatment of American Indians. Not only does he refuse the award, but also sends a Native American rights activist to explain as to why he was refusing the award. That was his way of educating the people to an extent.

He was also a political activist during his days so that might have tied into why he refused such award. Brando is the second actor to refuse.
