Marilyn Monroe marries Joe DiMaggio at San Francisco City Hall

Marilyn Monroe, a Hollywood actress and Joe DiMaggio, a legendary New York Yankees outfielder for 13 years, were the All-American couple. Glamorized by many, the couple’s relationship ended sooner than the photographers could snap the pictures.

On this day, January 14th, in 1954, crazed paparazzi, determined reporters, and loyal fans stalked San Francisco City Hall to capture any and every moment of Marilyn Monroe and her soon-to-be husband. The wedding was supposed to be a secret ceremony; however, Marilyn’s studio officially blabbed the news resulting in the appearance of many uninvited guests. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were pronounced man and wife at 1:48pm

Unfortunately, the couple lasted less than a year (274 days to be exact), and soon after the divorce, Marilyn was remarried. At age thirty-six, Marilyn died of drug overdose and DiMaggio was the one who made the arrangements at her funeral.
