Louisville wins the NCAA men’s basketball championship by beating UCLA 59-54

Louisville is a school with a great basketball tradition.  But like most college basketball programs, the program wasn’t officially put onto the map until it won its first championship.  And once it got its first title, the second one came not to long after.

It was on this day, March 24th, 1980, that Louisville won its first NCAA basketball title.  It did so by defeating the UCLA Bruins 59–54.

Louisville would be back with a vengeance just six years later when it won its second NCAA title after defeating Duke.   Louisville coach Denny Crum coached Louisville to both titles and he stands as one of eleven coaches to win two NCAA division 1championships.
