Many people believed the marriage was staged, some argued that the two were really in love, Michael Jackson, the King of Pop and Lisa Presley, the daughter of the King of Rock, were pronounced husband and wife after a 15-minute ceremony in a living room.

On this day, January 18, in 1996, divorce papers were served to Michael Jackson. Lisa Presley had enough of Michael’s drug addiction. Before filing for divorce, Presley suspected that Michael was not always sober. When Presley questioned Michael about certain medication, he refused to give straight answers and after awhile she no longer wanted to compromise. Presley filed for divorce but still wanted to remain friends.

Sadly, the public’s early judgment was correct, the couple’s marriage did not last longer than two years (18 months to be exact) and they were better off as friends.
