Larry Bird steals an inbounds pass from Isiah Thomas, passes it off to DJ for a game winning layup.

Larry Bird was one of the top 10 players in NBA history.  He could score, pass, rebound, play defense, and lead a team.  He had many memorable moments on the NBA court, but one moment in particular is etched into NBA playoff history.

It was on this day, May 26th, 1987, that Larry Bird stole an inbounds pass from Isiah Thomas and passed it off to Dennis Johnson for a game winning layup. The Celtics had trailed by one point, and Bird’s play was the difference in a one point victory during game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The Celtics went on to defeat the Pistons in game 7 of the finals by a score of 117 – 114.   However, the Lakers would get the best of the Celtics that season, when they beat them in game 6 of the NBA finals.  Nevertheless, the steal by Larry Bird is one of the most famous plays in a fantastic NBA career which included 3 NBA titles.
