Larry Bird wins the MVP award, becoming the 3rd player to win the NBA MVP in 3 consecutive seasons.

Larry Bird was one of the greatest NBA players that the league had ever seen. However, his career was cut short due to a lingering back issue that Bird could never get corrected.  But fortunately for NBA fans, we were able to see Larry excel in his prime.

It was on this day, May 28th, 1986, that Larry Bird won the MVP award.  Bird became the 3rd player to win the award in 3 consecutive seasons.

Bird was awarded the MVP in the middle of the NBA finals series against the Houston Rockets.  In game 6, Bird led Boston to 114 – 97 win and an NBA championship.  Larry Bird would win the NBA finals MVP – but sadly, it would be his last ever NBA championship.
