Largest crowd in sports history: 199,854 people at World Cup soccer finals Brazil

Large crowds attended American football events – both College and Pro.   The Big Houe in Michigan set a record when 114,804 fans watched Michigan play Notre Dame in 2011.  However, soccer events during the World Cup are often the most watched events on TV across the world.  And they also have set records in terms of attendance.

It was on this day, July 16th, 1950, that the largest crowd in Sports history attended a game.  199,854 people watched the World Cup finals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The game was played at Estadio do Maracana, and Uruguay defeated Brazil by a score of 2 – 1.

US sports stadiums couldn’t hold anywhere close to 200,000 people, so it is not a record that is expected to be broken in the US.  If it is going to be broken, it would most likely be in the World Cup again.
