Kylie Minogue’s cover song “The Loco-Motion” hits #1 in the US.

“The Loco-Motion” is a famous pop song written by Gerry Coffin and Carole King in 1962.  It was an example of the dance-song genre, where much of the song lyrics act as a description to the dance itself.  The song made it into the American Top 5 three times, first for Little Eva in 1962, next for Grand Funk Railroad in 1974, and then for Kylie Minogue in 1988.

It was on this day, November 5, 1988, that Kylie Minogue’s version of the song “The Loco-Motion” hit #1 in the U.S.  She originally had an impromptu performance of the song at an Australian rules football charity event, and went on to sign a record deal with Mushroom Records to release it as a single.

The music video for the song was filmed in Australia, and the song was nominated for Best International Single at the Canadian Music Industry Awards.  The song remains as Minogue’s best success in the United States.
