Knicks Play First Ever Home Game

The New York Knickerbockers are one of basketball’s oldest franchises. Established in 1946, the Knicks and Madison Square Garden are a large part of basketball history.

On this day, November 11th, in 1946, the New York Knicks played their first ever home game at Madison Square Garden (III).  The game was played in the short-lived Basketball Association of America and resulted in a loss against the Chicago Stags.  The Knicks were one of the original six teams of the BAA and stayed a key part of the league as it expanded to 16 teams.

The Knicks remain to be one of the six remaining teams from the BAA to play as a part of the NBA.  Today, the Knicks still play their home games at Madison Square Garden, although it is at a different location.
