Keith Smart, sinks a jump shot to give the Indiana a 74-73 win over the Syracuse in the NCAA finals.

Legendary college basketball coach Bobby Knight won 3 NCAA championships.  And it was his third NCAA title that stands out because of how memorable the game was.

It was on this day, March 30th, 1987, that Keith Smart hit the game winning shot in the NCAA championship game.  The jumper with 4 seconds left gave Indiana a 74 – 73 victory of Syracuse.  The game was played at the famous Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The win was special for Coach Knight as he become the third coach in NCAA history to win his third national championship.  Less than two years earlier, Knight had made headlines when he threw a chair on the court during an argument with the officials.  The championship helped to vindicate Bobby Knight and it extended his career.
